Outdated
While this book might have represented the cutting-edge in 1997, it is seriously outdated today. For instance, the book talks about offshore trusts as the penultimate asset protection tool, which was of course disproved in the Anderson case in 1999 and the Lawrence case in 2000, where in both cases those who set up offshore trusts went to jail. This book is good for the archives, and not much else.

What is the right answer?
I have read several books on this topic; none of them provided me with the "right set of answers" to my questions. Everyone of these book authors recommends their "favorite" legal structures for asset protection, and all of these protection schemes have "holes". Furthermore some of these schemes come at a steep price: on the one hand you may give up considerable amount of control over your investments, and on the other hand it (most likely) will cost you lots of time and money to set these structures up. What I like about this book is, that Mr. Goldstein presents this difficult topic from a neutral point of view - not recommending one legal structure over the other one. His discussions of the various asset protection vehicles are "to the point" - yet complete. What I miss is a more thorough discussion of the risk management side of asset protection. If you are in the middle class and you are on a limited budget, risk management is they key to (reasonable) asset protection. Let's face it, myself and probably most of us are better served with high liability insurance than with legal structures of the "rich and famous". Nevertheless, if you want to learn about the world of asset protection, Mr. Goldstein's book is a great reference! It will provide you with all the basic knowledge to discuss your case with an experienced asset protection lawyer.

Excellent Book On Asset Protection
Arnold Goldstein's classic book Asset Protection Secrets is probably one of the few asset protection books you will find that actually gives you your money's worth.

Goldstein's advice is aimed at those who are not only fighting off creditors, but those who want to legally and legitimately shield their assets from lawsuits, greedy ex-spouses, and other nosey people who should not have the right to go poking into your financial affairs in the first place.

His advice is applicable to individuals, businesses, professionals, and those who just want more financial privacy. Probably the best lesson you will learn from this book is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Even if you are happily married, if your business is in great financial shape and you have no legal problems of any type, NOW is the best time to take action. Waiting until trouble comes looking for you is much more expensive in the long run than simply preparing for the worst. If nothing else, following his advice will probably save you a ton on taxes, even if you never have to defend yourself against the courts or creditors.

This book is simple to both read and comprehend. Anyone should be able to follow the advice therein. However, keep in mind, most of the techniques in this book should only be used with the assistance of a skilled attorney. Trying to implement most of these suggestions on your own could land you in more trouble than you had in the first place. It will give you a lot of good ideas to discuss with your attorney though.

Overall, this is a great book for those looking to find basic info on asset protection and how to deal with creditors and debt.

basic textbook for asset protection
The author introduces basic concept of asset protection very clearly. If you are the first time to read this topic , it is a good choice. However, compared with another book " Asset protection" written by Arnold S.Goldstein, I found Arnold could present more practical examples and tips to readers. So I like the ways presented by Arnold.

Layperson Perspective
Pretty good book. The book counters a lot of hype by promoters of "bulletproof" asset protection plans, which do not exist apparently. All plans can fail no matter how elegant.
Moderately complex for a layman to read. Some material over the head of most laypersons. Most material practical. Some abstract theory of not much interest to clients.

Like a good bottle of wine
Reading this book is like finally getting a good bottle of aged wine after drinking years of fruit punch. From the descriptions of the seedy offshore planners who sell Cook Islands trusts to people whether they need it or not, to the domestic seminar promoters who line up shills to encourage attendees to buy cheapie family limited partnership kits, this book gives a candid look into how asset protection is sometimes shamelessly promoted. Having revealed the dirt under the rug, the book then goes on to address asset protection as a field of risk management and gives the best treatment of fraudulent transfer and bankruptcy preference rules that I have ever read. Just about all the popular asset protection strategies are reviewed, from Nevada bearer share entities to complex litigation expense policies, with the major strengths and weaknesses of each pointed out. The book spends quite a bit of time discussing both foreign and domestic asset protection trusts and their potential flaws (if I were a creditor attempting to penetrate such a structure, this would be the first resource that I would turn to), such that it is a wonderment that those structures are even used at all. Overall, the writing style is good, with just enough technical background on key points to let serious researchers know where to start, without it being overwhelming for the average business reader. Kudos to Jay and Chris. This book is well-researched and provides a level of thoughtfulness and depth of content that has been sadly absent from all the other books considering the topic of asset protection. Big thumbs up!

The only asset protection book you need
I am an attorney and real estate investor and am concerned about asset protection issues. This is the only book I've read that discusses both the plusses and minuses of various known techniques and also gives excellent big picture advice. Every other book has advocated specific cookie cutter techniques and left me wondering "would this really work if...?" This book tells you why those techniques do not work. Forget about that trust in the Cook Islands, by the way, unless you are willing to flee the country.

Asset Profile: A Practical Guide to Financial Privacy & Asset Protection

great book with two catches
This book is very detailed but has two catches. First, this book covers asset protection using domestic entities and only nominally addresses the use of entities domiciled in foreign jurisdicitions. Second, I made the mistake of paying Amazon $95 for this book and found out only later that it is available for $40 at assetprofile.com

Good info. Takes time to read it all.
The book is an easy read but there's much more to know about this subject. There are issues about asset protection, or financial privacy, that I didn't consider until I read this manual. It's a heavy three ring binder. Tax and other laws support the claims. I would not recommend this for bedroom reading. But it's great if you really want to protect your [self] from a lawsuit or divorce. I gave it to my attorney and he wasn't disappointed either. It's a little different in its layout but easy to figure out. In comparison to other resources, this ranks high on my list.

Practical Financial Protection at Last
At first, I had trouble stomaching the higher price.  Asset Profile is the most complete book I've read on how to use Nevada corporations for asset protection and financial privacy.  I was surprised (pleasantly)that the author went into such detail (i.e. how to file liens against your own property using the corporation, the tax code, nominee stockholders, nominee officer services, etc.)  The manual is practical and an easy read.  But don't expect to get through it in a weekend.  The volume of information is great, and it took me some time to really get through it.  I like how he supports his claims with the tax code and statutes that you can look up yourself, if you wanted to. But again, there's alot of information.  So if that's what you really want, get it.  If you're a lazy reader and the detail is not your "schtick", then get something else that's not so meaty.
