Adapting their techniques for fostering creativity as a means to spiritual fulfillment for the workplace, the authors of The Artist's Way at Work have shown that people can thrive at their jobs when they take time to nurture their spirit and listen to their thoughts. The book features psychological guidance, anecdotes, and exercises to assist the reader in sorting out the multitude of happenings, commitments, and choices in one's life. Again, these authors of the enormously successful The Artist's Way recommend their fundamental technique of "morning pages"--a kind of free-form journaling--to unravel thoughts and feelings, focus energy, and direct action. The beautiful surprise of this deceivingly simple exercise is that it actually works! It's making the time to do morning pages that's the real battle. But, if you, like so many others, feel swept up by the tidal wave of our fast-paced, noisy culture, then the authors' slow and steady steps toward reclaiming the spiritual self are invaluable. Some of the suggestions and exercises are a bit out of touch with the complex, and often emotionally-charged, political maneuverings of corporate culture, but the aim of cultivating an individual's ingenuity and resourcefulness is effective and expertly structured. Overall, the authors' philosophy boils down to change that begins with a constantly emerging self. With this book's help, you'll not only find how that new self spawns clarity and grace, but how widely their effects can reverberate throughout the workplace. --Karen Karleski

Motivational Psychobabble Crud
You've got to be kidding is right. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

They must be kidding
This must be a joke. Writing yet another book on creativity that is simply a rehash of the original book with a slightly different twist. Not an example of creative thinking in my estimation. Don't waste your money.

Another journey you create for yourself
If you've read the Artist's way, this book will seem very familiar. However, don't stop there. The different flavor of this book makes it worth pursuing in addition to the Artist's way. I went through the Artist's way book and then took a 4 week hiatus and then jumped into this one. I have been doing morning pages for over 6 months now. They have value to me, even more than the 45 minutes of sleep, I give up each day for them

This book is strongly geared toward the working world. As with the Artist's way book morning pages and time-outs are necessary to help you work through these and other issues. In addition this book is arranged in a similar weekly sequence with excercises and a weekly check in.

PUTS THE PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH IN PERSPECTIVE:
This book unlike the Artist's way, deals with personal interaction not just personal creativity. Let's face it we all work with people and how we relate to them does influence our ability to get the job done.
As the Artist's way does, it also recognizes there are certain people (crazy makers) that complicate our lives, there are also personality types and roles we all play in any interaction. This book gives great tips on how to recognize these and work with them.

IDENTIFIES WHAT MIGHT BE SLOWING YOU DOWN AT WORK:
Similarly, with working with people, we have priorities to adjust and readjust. If we are stuck in a point in our career, maybe these need adjusting. This book if you objectively do the exercises helps us understand where some or road blocks might be.
Sometimes we are the road block.

IN GENERAL LIKE THE ARTIST'S WAY, THIS BOOK LEADS YOU TO EXAMINE YOUR LIFE
For the most part the Artist's way presses the reader to examine what they want out of life and how they can get there. Also it helps you to understand what your true desires are, not just what you think you want.

LIKE THE ARTIST'S WAY, THERE ARE QUOTES TO PONDER IN THE MARGINS
It is a small thing but like the Artist's way there are quotes in the margins from famous people. It makes you think the confusing path we are all on, is one many have taken. Some of the quotes really connect.

To give you the full flavor of the book, here is the Table of Contents:

Extremely Favorable
Excellent tool for learning about estate planning. A must read before meeting with a lawyer. Fun to read and very understandable.

Candy coated estate planning
Sitting down to read a book on estate planning ranks right up there with a root canal on my list of favorite pastimes. But this book is refreshingly different. It really is possible to get solid information on a serious legal topic and have fun at the same time! As an attorney specializing in the field, Hawley knows his stuff. He also knows how to write in an entertaining, humorous way. Maybe the IRS could enlist him for the next revision of the 1040 instructions. Highly recommended!

A Must Have
This is a delightful book on an otherwise complex and daunting subject. The author leads you step by step down the aisles of estate planning with humor and insight. The Artful Dodger's Guide to Planning Your Estate is a must have for anyone interested in learning how to run the rapids of the estate tax system.

I'm not impressed...
This book is basically a bunch of old Sanskrit sayings (much like the things in Chinese fortune cookies) after each saying there is a small paragraph further clarifying the point. Basically I feel this book is worthless for anyone who has common sense.

Reed Floren

Strategies For Success
It is an interesting book with lots of good advice. Cleary's commentaries however make much better sense in the total context of his work. He cross-references other works he has translated to paint a larger picture of what the successful person uses in way of operative principles. If you are interested in the vision of a global culture in which centered people are operating at a high peak of efficiency informed by certain universal core values, then this is certainly a valuable book. However, I would recommend reading other of Cleary's works beforehand. "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu seems to be where most people start.

One of the best books ever, no joke!
This is not really about "Wealth". Cleary is the best translator ever first of all, very easy to understand. This book is about other wealth, not material wealth. It has many very good stratagies in it, and Cleary provides very good interpretation. This is better than the "The Book of Leadership and Wisdom". A classic, by a non-well known Hindu Philosopher.

The toughest to come by
The Art of Supportive Leadership is a guide to be a better leader. This book shows, not tells, how to become a better leader through others. Leadership is the toughest attribute to perfect and the toughest to come by when it is being used correctly. To be able to work with others where everyone feels equal in power and involved while one is delegating is what a true leader is made of and what this book conveys.

Humility in Leadership
This book brings humility to the leadership ranks. It contains common sense insight that is rare to this topic. A quick and poignant read.

Excellent short guide
Donald Walters presents a very short, practical guide to being an effective manager.

This guide is drawn from the psychological/spiritual laws that underpin human relations. This is in sharp contrast to the current fad for down home, concocted anecdotes and repackings of the obvious that lure the unwary traveler in airport books stores.

The end-of-chapter check lists are particularly practical and useful.

If you want to make yourself and your team more effective, this is the book to have.

A Federally-Funded Tautology?
The federal government funded this "empirical" study of the "choices" available to those who have filed for bankruptcy.

The principal finding? People who file for bankruptcy are broke. A true revelation.

So where is Senator Proxmire when you need him?

SELF-FULLFILLING PROPHECY OF DEBT
This book does an outstanding job of delivering the message that Americans are tapped out of money. From record setting personal bankruptcies to U.S. government's pension for borrowing, it is very easy to see that we as a populis and as a nation are on the edge of a new financial depression. An Excellent Read for Anyone interested in the Truth. - Mason Johnson, President, www.tomorrowsgold.com

Landmark Study of Consumer Bankruptcy in the U.S.
As We Forgive Our Debtors is a result of a landmark study of bankrupt debtors in the 1980s. The authors, three of the leading experts on bankruptcy in the United States, focus on who files for bankruptcy. Contrary to widespread myth, most bankrupts are not irresponsible spendthrifts who could afford to pay their debts. Instead, they cross all income and occupational levels. What they do have in common is they have insurmountable financial problems resulting from crises in their lives, including divorce, job loss, and medical problems.

What is perhaps most disturbing is that single women have been and are increasingly filing for bankruptcy, thanks to their much lower salaries to begin with. It is this group who would suffer most from any kind of so-called bankruptcy reform.

This book, while it is geared for an academic market, is actually highly readable, with copious footnotes at the end of each chapter. The book, while originally published in 1989, is more timely than ever as Congress is considering a fatally flawed bankruptcy reform bill which would be devasting to the vast majority of people filing for bankruptcy but a boon to the credit card industry.

I highly recommend this book and its sequel, The Fragile Middle Class.
