Great Ideas For Mainstream America
In these tough economic times, this book is more important than ever. I liked the Tightwad Gazette better, but only because it was closer to where I was in my Frugal Jorney. This is a guide for those who never thought about thrift. Those who never set foot in Goodwill before and are living the American Dream...conspicuous consumption and debt up to their eyebrows! Mrs. Hunt is candid and opens her life to the reader. She tells how to get off the crazy, spendaholic merry-go-round and examines the reasons why people spend too much. Then, she shows how to fix it. Thank God we weren't in as much debt as she was, but she showed us how to fix the debt we had. For that, I am forever in her "debt." =) This is advice I never could have gleaned from the Tightwad Gazette, as Amy D. and her family did it right from the start. Defintiely a great read!

Easy, Cheap and Practical
Mary Hunt's book is great. I read it quickly. I understood all the concepts and have been able to actually apply them. The thing I loved most is that is she was once like the rest of us - working, creating debt and figuring out how to manage it. She made her mistakes and learned from them and I admire that too. SHe lays her experiences on the line for us to learn from and hopefully not to repeat them. I am still using the concepts today.

What a wonderful resource! Can I give it 10+??!!
Having experienced a consumer-debt nightmare of my own, the author's story of overcoming $100,000 in personal debt was inspiring! I wish I'd found this resource before our family wound up deeply in debt. The burden of financial problems can cause havoc with even the best of marriages--financial problems can adversely effect nearly every area of your life. If you're struggling to stay ahead of the collection agencies and their not-so-nice phone calls; if you're becoming an expert at juggling past-due bills; and if your family relationships are starting to suffer from the stress and strain of your financial situation..... PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! It not only can save your financial future, but it can also restore your peace-of-mind and possibly heal your marriage, as well...

It'll make you confident in your fund-picking skills
I am pretty new to investing, but some friends introduced me to Mr. Jaffe's column last year and I felt like he was talking to me. I understood almost everything I read in his column, which was pretty amazing because I never would have told you two years ago that I could have followed any of this stuff.

When I heard Mr. Jaffe had written a book on funds, I figured it was the one for me. I was absolutely right.

It's just like his column (chatty, funny and easy to understand)but much more complete. It told me everything I needed to know about fund ownership in a commonsense way. And I like the idea that I can turn back to this "owner's manual" for help whenever something happens in my funds. (It's a lot easier to handle than that book of column Jaffe clippings I collected.)

great book
This is nice and comprehensive, but chatty and easy to read. I particularly like the way the author has cross-referenced information so that you can skip right to the sections you want to know about, without reading every word that comes before or after. This gives you all the tools you need you get started.

Not worth 20 bucks
If you look at the table of contents, you will see that the number of pages devoted to basic technical analysis indicators is absolutely minimal (e.g., MACD). This book is only 59 pages and, therefore, omits all but the most basic. I just don't think that it's worth $20. As many of you know, you can go to various technical anaysis web sites and print out---for FREE---equally/ more helpful information. This publication is really more of an introductory pamphlet than a bona fide book on TA.

This is a dictionary not an encyclopedia
You get what you pay for on this one. Clear writing with good examples but a beginners guide only. There isn't anything in this book you could not find on the web. Also have noticed the author not speaking what is obvious in the charts regarding the market when interviewed so far in 2002.

Number One Value In Technical Analysis Books
Shhhh....want to know a secret? This book delivers everything one needs to know about chart reading at a far friendlier price than Murphy's other books or any other technical analysis book. Read and re-read this book then check out Technical Analyst Gary B. Smith's column at thestreet dot com, and explore stockcharts dot com also. You will be ready to use technical analysis to read charts instantly very shortly after doing the above steps. This book, published in year 2000, includes data about the Spring 2000 NASDAQ meltdown. Use the money you save by taking the above mentioned steps to buy some stock. Sensational book, sensational value! A must buy!
