a good book with bad opinions
This is an excellent book which combines the history, the
mathematics and the physics of radio. It is not a textbook
and you need to know calculus and physics to understand its
technical chapters. It has ten appendices, they explain the
"bottom" material or background needed in the book. However,
the all book is well written and it has an excellent presentation.
I think that the author's opinions about the
radio developers such as Marconi, DeForest and Tesla
are out of place in a book like this. So I gave three starts.

With or without Matlab, it is still the best radio book
Mr.Nahin, could you please write more books like this... ?

Well done
I have been a fan of Paul Nahin's writting since I came across his book an imaginary tale ... In this text he clearly describes the history as well as the EE of radio. It is an excellent book and I especially enjoyed the appendices and matlab and electronics workbench examples.

Good text for self study
I found this text to be very interesting. It contains material that I have not seen in a single book. All theorems and definitions are well and simply expressed and illustrated with practical examples. I've found few but insignificant references to equations and figures, and I've informed the author. It is an ideal text to learn both the material and MATLAB. Appendix A
is a very good introduction to MATLAB and it helped me very much.

An easy-to-learn-from text
Now in an expanded and updated second edition, Signals And Systems With MATLAB Applications by electrical engineer and educator Steven T. Karris is an invaluable textbook and resource especially written and organized for students of electrical engineering. An easy-to-learn-from text, with practical MATLAB applications to use and drive the theory home, Signals And Systems authoritatively covers a wide selection of mathematical and engineering topics in seasoned and technical detail, including delta functions, the laplace transformation, fourier series, analog and digital filters, and much more. Signals And Systems is a confidently recommended advanced instructional resource especially for dedicated students or veteran electrical engineers looking to brush up their basic skills.

Comprehensive DSP book, lots of examples, very illustrative
This book is fantastice. It starts basic and moves rapidly along to practical filter design. 100's of examples are given on the enclosed disk (in Matlab .m files). This means the reader can tinker around with each example until he understands the details. You can use the .m files to build your own simulations and filters. This is an excellent reference for the working engineer, or as a tutorial for the working engineer who needs to come up to speed on DSP.

The only draw back is YOU NEED MatLab to full utilize this book. If you are a student, you can pick up the acedemic version of MatLab for around $100. This works fine.

Stearns and David did our profession a big favor by writing this book. Thanks guys!

Grammatical errors
I have been trying to read this book .There are a considerable number of grammatical errors and I have just read the first two chapters. It makes reading difficult sometimes ,and understanding of the material unclear in some instances. I hope the publishers have another look at it. This is a big minus, on a book that could have been very good.

broad basic material
How do you write a book on a subject when the material is covered broadly in the field, and the computational program(Matlab) already sells complete packages? Just like this book does. Not being in the field that most of this stuff is directed towards, I was amazed how the author introduced the subject, developed it, and let it go just at the right time. The reader could take the material and go to communications applications, or membrane diffusion analysis using epidermal patches. While the use and generation of random numbers is usually the domain of the statistics people, the author adroitly skirted definition confrontations to bring out the main and important points of the subject. Best of all the the CD contains the same information in both Matlab and MatCad. If nothing else this can be used to see how the two different machines work the same problem. The book provides a different way of looking at some basic concepts even when the reader is familiar with the material (Dirac, Impulse, detection).

Good Mix of Presentation and Hands On
I have worked through the first couple of chapters so far and I think this book is great. This book offers good technical derivations and explanations (never thought I would want to see a derivation again after gettting my BSc EE). It also has problems to work through and a good library of m files to work with from the website. My only complaint is that the answers to the end of the chapter questions are not provided (although there are very good examples of other problems in the chapter).

Extremely Useful Radar Resource
If there is a marathon radar book, this one wins the race. This book is a top-notch radar analysis resource. I reference this text on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. The MATLAB code this book provides is concise and very useful. I recommend this book to anyone interested in radar at any level. The examples are easy to understand and the review problems further reinforce the text material. From beginning to end, this book covers subjects from the Radar Equation to Clutter to Tracking. Mahafza hits a home run with this one. I only hope there is a follow-up text out soon.

A MUST HAVE FOR ALL RADAR ENGINEERS
I love this book. It is comprehensive and it presents the material so that any one can make sense out of it. This is a Must Have kind of book. The MATLAB code makes it even more usefull for people like me working in the field. You can download all these programs form the publisher's web site. Have you ever wondered how to re-produce any plot or figure in any other radar book? Well, wonder no more, the code provided with this book allows you to do so, plus you can use it to generate your own outputs that match your needs and requirements.

Beginners only
A good text for learning Matlab, this text is best suited for beginners. Innapropriate for those who have done a lot of programming (e.g., C or C++ or Fortran). Experienced programmers might consider 'Matlab Primer' instead.

good book
this book gave me a good support to find out how started with
matlab programming, but I consider that should better for all users if this book had showing more examples, in matter fact I had been reading it and is a good source of knowledge.
