Best book I have ever read
If you want to succeed, you have got to read this book, whether you are an accomplished bussinesman, or someone fresh out of college, this book can help you attain what you want out of life. A book has never changed my life this much, it is just incredible. My wife even says that I am a completely new and improved person. Buy this book TODAY!

Two Highly Enthusiastic Thumbs UP!
The 1% Solution, Leadership Through Action, in a few words: 'Great, outstanding, motivational, moving to action, inspiring.' It's cuts through the red tape often found in many of today's self help books and gets right to the point of specific self questions, and specific how to solutions that focuses on the individual's personal effort. ('If it is to be, it is up to me.') Ten two letter words that can make the difference between success and failure. As a connoisseur and avid reader of good self-improvement books, I've probably read 40 or 50 in the past few years, from: Napoleon Hill's famous classic: Think and Grow Rich, Anthony Robbins': Personal Power and The Giant Within, to Steven Covey's run away best seller: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This is one of the best! I know that because it will be my text book, and constant companion until I've memorized and internalized its teachings and concepts. In a word it's a book with an action plan, and solutions I can act on immediately without any complicated formulas or state of the art strategy.

Amazing Book!
This book was incredible, it has helped improve every aspect of my life. I think Bijan Afkami is going to be the next Dale Carnegie. Perhaps some readers are not used to his unconventional writing style, but I enjoyed it thoroughly, and found it effective as well as interesting. Definitely buy this book if you want to learn how to be a great leader.

Customers are the gold in your company
I liked this book. All companies depend on one thing only; customers. And "1001 Ways to Keep Customers Coming Back" empasizes this point which, although, should be clear with all managers and business owners, is not. The book introduces basic ways of keeping your customers happy and how to "promote" you company or product so that you gain customer loyalty. I think this is a good book for everyone in the business world.

Irresistible Lists to Fill the Gaps in Your Stalled Thinking
Ever since The Loyalty Effect was published, companies have come to understand that it is usually far more profitable to keep existing customers than to acquire new ones. Since companies usually focus more on getting the new ones, that left a problem for executives: What are good ways to retain customers?

The book vaults into the gap by addressing major areas like creating a better bundle of products and services (offer stamps in a card shop in a tourist town like Williamsburg where the post office has long lines), add incentives (free gifts, coupons, rebates, special financing, and contests), tap into or build communities of interests (like those who love Harleys), building trust by standing behind your work (deliver what you promise and make good if you don't), give first in order to receive (this often means helping a charitable purpose with some of your proceeds), reward all customers as though they are your best customer (with a smile, recognition, respect, etc.), treat your best customers even better (they account for 80 percent of profits and there aren't very many of them), make it easy (automatic reorder and replenishment), go to your customers, personalize what you offer to your customers, and become a champ at customer service.

These are all valid concepts, and seeing 100 or so examples of each point makes it easier to imagine how to apply these principles to your own business. That's the strength of the book.

My only quibble was that it seemed like the examples pretty much came from the same companies in each area. I think I now know more about Merrie Maids than I really need to know, and a lot of the examples are pretty obvious. Usually books of lists have more variety and more intriguing examples.

Perhaps this limitation is just because this subject hasn't been thought about enough. I hope the authors come back with an update on this book in a few years with zingy examples that are based on things you, the reader, have developed as a result of studying this book.

May you have irresistible success in keeping your customers!

Psycho-Babble
I was very disappointed with this book. The author implies that his theories are based on Meyers-Briggs but the Meyers-Briggs type inventory is based on 16 personality types. What psychological principals Mr. Rye based his book on is a mystery.

I found "The Situation" examples more a work of fiction than of real life business problems. His motivational examples were repetitive and lacked insight into human behavior.

All in all, reading this book was irritating rather than helpful.

Solid attempt - Difficult to apply
Although I'm only halfway into this book, I'm compelled to review it as I may not make it to the end. The book appears to be based on the Meyers-Briggs Personality Inventories. I've read and reviewed this well-known information several times in the past and have found it extremely useful, especially with respect to self-assessment. Mr. Rye's attempt to take the more complex Meyers-Briggs information and cyphon it into 4 distinct workplace personalities is an admirable and meaningful goal. The problem is, that while it serves as an excellent tool for the the reader (me) to understand his own personality type in the workplace, it has done little to help me identify the different personalities types of my subordinates. Just as the reader learns that he has a prodiminant personality trait with lesser traits of other types, so do his subordinates. It became increasingly difficult for me to identify the prodiminant personality types of the my subordinates. Mr. Rye's logical method of describing real and challenging work situations, and then precribing the correct remedies/approaches for the appropriate personality type of individual, just didn't work for me. The advise was good, except that I couldn't peg the majority of my employees into their prodiminant personality traits and thus apply the correct solution. The case-study situations themselves seemed to be a likely occurrence with only one or two of the possible personality types and therefore applying it to all four did not fit with my own experiences as a manager. However, if it does serve to help me better understand and resolve even a couple of employee situations (which it has already done), then it will have been worth the read. Each day of life teaches us to be better leaders, and this book will (to some degree) help me to recognize the lesson.

A cornucopia of creative ideas for motivating people.
Beginning with a self-administered test and a discussion about understanding yourself in terms of four personality types, this book presents ways to motivate yourself and others, including your boss and folks outside of the company, under a variety of circumstances. The author addresses personality and situational challenges. Here is a book that provides you with very applied guidance and an abundance of ideas; the type of book that should stimulate your thinking and motivate you to action.

Nice idea, but where is the delivery ?
I read about a third of the book before giving up. I found it to be useful from the point of view of identifying and rating ones own skills, but it then went on about powerplays in the workplace. While this is an essential part of promotions, it is not a good long term strategy if the principle one wants to adopt is to be promoted on merit.

The book (or at least what I read) lacked any discussion on exercising the brain so that one can improve their methodology. Doing this would help one improve the quality of their work, and then achieve their promotional goals. Its just a different way of getting there but in a way that promotes ones confidence in their own work.

The overall theme of the book was to offer self improvement in many key areas, but it seemed to focus on how to respond to situations, not how to create them. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I should finish reading it.

A Good Read!
If you're just beginning your career or if you're stalled and wondering why you're not progressing up the ladder, you will find David E. Rye's basic book quite useful. His credo: Use self-promotion to attain professional promotion. Don't be misled by the gimmicky title. This is not a list of 1,00l ways to land that promotion. Instead, Rye builds his book around seven strategies that let everyone know you are management material. We [...] like one thing in particular - at pivotal points in each chapter, Rye recommends books that will take you further into the particular subject that chapter covers. This is a great idea, and more business books should refer onward this way. So, if you're just starting out or if you need a boost up the corporate ranks, this book will tell you how to climb, or at least tell you where to go to find out what you need to know.

A Great Book - One of a Kind
In the work place, we all know that we are good and believe that is all that it takes to get ourselves promoted, automatically. Mr. Rye does an excellent job of pointing out that this may not happen unless you take action to promote yourself every day. He gives you well over 1,001 ways to do that. I use it as a daily reference book and it has already helped me get the promotion that I have always wanted. I'm already working on my next promotion, thanks to Mr. Rye's advice.

Can you use the internet?
If you can use the internet, you do not need this book. There are no "big secrets" or earth-shaking revelations here. The information presented in this book is free to anyone who can do an internet search on whatever subject they are interested in. The only thing I learned from this book is how to compile readily available information and sell it for a profit. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Useful book
All of those useful little tidbits of information people always end up learning the hard way are in this book. There is almost too much useful consumer information in here. I am sure this book will save me a huge amount of trouble later in life. If you've ever wanted a book that could instill years of knowledge and experience to help you out with all sorts of monetary concerns, this is the book for you.

It is filled with many benefits and future savings.
I was impressed with the sheer volume and accuracy of the information contained in this book. It is filled with many benefits, and the future savings in dollars is just amazing.

An Inspiration
Cynthia Yates is an inspiration for anyone that wants (or needs) to tighten their belts without feeling completely deprived. Her upbeat attitude and sense of humor make this a fun read. Her tips range from grocery shopping and cooking tips to gift giving to entertaining to big ticket items to maintaining things we already own, and more. This book has many good ideas that are easy to implement. Ms. Yates makes you stop and think how a lot of things we think of as necessary can be either done without or obtained in a more intelligent way. Nothing fancy here-just common sense and a well thought out approach to making it in a tight economy, especially helpful if you are new at scaling down. She is a Christian author who is quick to tell her readers that God comes first in her life, however her ideas work well for anyone who sees a need to get a grip on their spending. To fully benefit from this book be prepared to "roll up your sleeves."

The Best Tax Advise They Never Give You
They have missed the point. When asked by the IRS to conduct an audit of your return, the very best thing to say is, "Is it mandatory or voluntary for me to let you see my private books and records?" Just watch, they will never answer - because it's VOLUNTARY! The courts have said so! It HAS TO BE voluntary, otherwise it would be a violation of your 4th and 5th amendment rights! You NEVER have to let the IRS see your records - even if they send you a summons, all you do is show up and claim the 5th each time they ask a question, or to see a document!! The book never tell you this!! So it is ultimately not helpful.

What Happened to the Bill of Rights?
If you want to protect yourself against the IRS, you should start by asking why you need the protection to begin with. Books like this are all about trying to "play the game" as shrewedly as you can. This is absurd, since you're playing odds as much as you are playing the game. the IRS doesn't care about you or the Constitution, it cares about quotas and scaring you into submission.

Freedom is your birthright as an American. SEIZE IT! Read "Freedom in Chains" by James Bovard and "Your Money or your Life" by Sheldon Richman and "Why we mustAbolish the income tax" by Nelson Hultberg. These books point the way to freedom rather than more pointless submission.

Good general overview, although not entirely extensive.
Perhaps I merely expected too much, however, I found this book to concentrate on only half of the battle in creating a successful internet business. It gave a general summary of the Internet and the different types of hosting methods for the site, and then concentrated completely on promotion. That hardly constitutes a solid explanation of the subject, beginning to end. What about, in detail, managing orders, purchasing neccessary equipment, dealing with manufacturers and retailers, etc? I can't say I'd reccomend this for anyone seeking an in-depth explanation of all aspects of internet businesses.

i like the book
the book was very useful, and interesting

A very down to earth book
The book cuts all the hype around E-Commerce phenomenon and boldly states that Internet ultimately is a tool, a very powerful one though, and like any other tool is as good as the user.

As an Electronic Commerce Consultant from Bombay, India, I really like the way autor has integrated real life marketing strategies with ones on the Internet. The strategies are applicable to businesses globally, and not just in countries which are way up in Internet maturity and penetration.
