A Valuable ResourceThis book puts forth a valuable resource for responsibilities that fall under the accounts payable umbrella. The book, through good outlined topics and case studies, shows how a company can save money, maintain internal control, upgrade its systems, as well as retail professionalism of the department. The book includes an excellent division of topics within, which are pertinent to those who are involved with the day to day running of the accounting manager and accountants.
Top quality handbookGives a solid summary of most important parts of running AP operations. The case studies make the book very clear. For new controllers this would be a really good addition to your bookshelf.
Excellent coverage of the main issues in A/PThis is probably the best (and only?) book available that gives a detailed overview of A/P procedures. It is especially helpful for those who need to design new policies to address difficult problems. For example, the book gives a very good explanation of procurement cards (p-cards), how to reduce T&E costs, and how to choose and hire new A/P personnel. In other words, it covers just about all of the bases. The only area the book doesn't cover is specific software packages, but I think that is beyond the scope of the book's title, and there are many other resources that have information accounting software. Potential buyers should note that there are annual supplements that update this book, and it may be worthwhile taking a look at them as well. Technology causes so many changes, that some business ideas are out of date within a few months, so you might want to make sure you have the most current information.

Accounting: What the Numbers Mean, 6th editionI ordered a 6th edition of the book, but was sent the 5th edition, which is useless for my class. The order arrived 2 days before my class starts. I have assignment due the first day of class being a graduate class. I have about 150 pages to read, and a paper to write, and have no time to deal with this mess. Trying to find a contact phone number for Amazon was impossible as well. This was a big shocker and a great disappointment in the whole ordeal of on-line ordering from Amazon and its third party.
Avoid at all costs!!!!I am having to use this book for an Accounting Grad class and it is perhaps one of the worst txt books I have ever laid my eyes on! Wordy doesn't begin to describe how bad this book is, did this go through an editor or straight to press? It just goes on and on and on throwing in examples that come later in the chapter, the examples are poor never follwing a simple path, and the questions at the end of each section are as bad as the book. This book reminds me of someone who decides to teach you something off of the top of their head, they didn't bother to make any notes or set a goal for how they wanted to approach the subject. Avoid at all costs!!!
Not BadI had this book for a graduate level introductory accounting course. It wasn't as bad as the previous reviewer commented. However, at places, it does tend to get wordy. Hence, only 4 stars. Overall, it's good.

Competent Accounting EducationBeing a teacher, I find this book is very useful for beiggners as well as for teachers. Basically, In my opinion, accounting can never be understood without concept and principles. This book satisfies all the basic requirements of learners. This book is written in simple and useful business enviornment. It depicts all the concepts and attracts it`s users. The accounting treatments are stated in a simple way. One should can easily understand the basic purpose of financial and manegerial accounting. Really this book is remarkable!! I found this book is very useful. I have not words in my mind to describe it`s actual utility. But one thing is that there is a lack of problems in few chapters, if that could also be included then I am assure that the major problem of practice should be solved. This book described in a simple way, How the accounting performs as the "Language of Business".
Excellence of Accounting EducationI find this is one of best textbooks available in the market. I love reading it very much.

Beyond unacceptableVerbose and useless! The book says that the only way to learn accounting is to practice doing problems. It sucks at showing you how to do problems. It sucks worst at teaching you the concepts. No matter how many technical or engineering degrees you may have, this will make you feel stupid.
This one will make you pull your hair out!Unless you go to Haaaaarvaaard (I always forget how many A's to put), you are probably going to be a bit perplexed by the content of this book.
The cases go WAY beyond what is covered in the Chapters, and its up to the instructor to try to fill in the gaps (hopefully your instructor realizes this).
I have found myself referring to my textbook from my intro accounting course more often than this book itself in order to grasp the concepts at hand. Seriously, this book is a punishment to anyone who has to buy it for school. And its FREAKIN heavy to haul around across campus.
'Nough said.
A Heavy BookIt's not that bad as other reviews say it is, but it is definetely such a heavy book to carry around.
