Outstanding! Highly recommended
Everything you need to know about money...As my father's health is beginning to decline, my wife and I recently found ourselves facing the difficult task of talking with my parents about their estate and finances. No other book helped us think about the questions we needed to ask and the way we needed to ask them like "Don't Mess with my Money." Not only did we discover that they needed a new insurance plan, but we also learned about ways to make smarter decisions about our OWN investments. I couldn't believe how many resources were packed into this one book, and would recommend it to readers of any age, no matter what their incomes are.
A great overall guide to help get your accounts in orderThis is a great overall guide to get your financial house in order. The car chapter is worth the price of the book alone--it helped me save big last weekend when I was renegoiating my lease agreement.
As a new dad, the chapters on handling family finance and insurance will prove invaluable. We often forget to revaluate our financial needs when we get caught up in a new arrival.
A great buy, a great addition to my libarary.
Thanks Ken and Daria, Im going to try to catch your radio show to see what other sound advice you have to share.

Outstanding Information! After receiving an early-retirement offer from my employer, I diligently went about reviewing my options. I was not sure whether to take a company annuity or a lump sum from my pension fund. I was not certain about how to handle my 401k. In defense of my company, they offered informational seminars however the best information has been this book. I would recommend, actually I would highly recommend this book for any employee thinking about changing jobs or retiring. This is a great-easy to read resource.
WOW! Donald A. Nisbet is a genius!!!Don't Get Caught With Your Pants Down is survival guide, true to form. With all of the teacher layoffs in California supposedly looming on the horizon, I definitely recommend it for all who could be affected and or already have been affected by a layoff. This book is perfect for currently employed who want to get a jump on retirement and for those who would like to learn about investing and how to do it properly; god, it is such a great book, with so many uses I could talk about them all day but unfortunately I have to sum it up in 1000 words or less. Bottom line, read it, use it and don't get caught with your pants down, I didnt!!!
Keep this in your back pocket!I haven't let this book stray too far from my side since my employer (major airline) offered me an early retirement. Very helpful!

Don't Die Broke: How to Turn Your Retirement Savings into Lasting Income, by personal-finance writer and financial-education specialist Margaret A. Malaspina, offers a fresh take on one of today's hottest money matters by outlining ways to tap most effectively into the retirement nest egg that you're currently nurturing. While most such guides concentrate on actually amassing those future fiscal resources in the first place, Malaspina shows instead how to maximize what you're (hopefully) already building so you'll (hopefully) always have what you need. "Most people find themselves making decisions about retirement plan distributions with little guidance," she writes. "Few people understand the consequences of their choices--or, indeed, what choices they have." In clear, highly focused chapters, she offers solid suggestions for creating a lasting retirement income, lowering potential taxes, and building an estate worth passing along. --Howard Rothman

Don't believe the subtitleThe subtitle is "Taking Money out of your IRA, 401(k), or other savings plan-- and creating lasting retirement income, but there's precious little useful how-to here. There's basically one chapter (9) that deals with the details of setting up a withdrawal plan and the advice boils down to "go find an investment advisor". Most of the book is spent explaining 401ks, IRAs, workplace plans, etc.
It's my own fault, though. Next time I'll read the TOC before buying!
A Solid Effort! Many rules and regulations govern pension plans. The technicalities are complicated and change constantly. People can make irrevocable errors doing something as simple as moving assets from one plan to another. Margaret A. Malaspina cuts through retirement plan red tape and explains the jargon. She shows you how to get to your money after you have worked hard to save it. This book demystifies your options and clarifies the consequences of your choices. The author makes reading about taxes relatively painless. We at getAbstract recommend this book to anyone planning retirement, switching retirement plans, or withdrawing retirement funds. However, because of its discussion of United States tax law, it is not useful to those in other countries.
This book was just what I needed!Malaspina has taken a very complicated topic and made it easy for the average reader to comprehend the important issues and find answers to questions that face everyone who needs to make a decison about their retirement savings. I had no idea it could be so complicated to get at my own money. Reading this book has enlightened me and helped me avoid some serious mistakes.

A tough subject handled sporadically, some well, some not soThis book is one of the first for Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server. The author does a very good job in reviewing the small details but somewhat misses the "big picture" for the non technical small business owner who wants knowledge enough to see the installation and configuration requirements, and perhaps install it himself. The book oscillates between step by step operations for the non technical and the very technical items are some what generalized. This is a little confusing to both types of readers. I was very suprised at the content of NT4.0 sections (very well done with excellent NT4.0 information) that did not reference the reader to how or if they are important to BackOffice Small Business Server. However, there is excellent coverage of potential trouble spots that will save the more technical installer many headaches. Not a book for the small business owner or the non-computer experienced installer. Written before the 4.0a upgrade Service ! release. Easy read and good style.
