I first purchased this book years ago, and I have to admit at the time it was a revelation. I was trying to buy stocks and usually failed to do so simply because I did not want to pay broker fees and I was rarely in a position to buy 100 shares at a time (if you bought less, the stock price and the broker fee both usually went up). Back then, the book was a great aid. I still own a stock list in the book that I purchased thanks to this book.

But in many ways, this book has lost a lot of relevance. Now one can go online and purchase stocks in any amount with fees of as little as $3.00. And the fact that the book has not been updated since 1996 weighs heavily against recommending it be purchased by anyone today. Perhaps Carlson has not bothered to further update because of the ease with which stocks may eb purchased on-line.

Still, for someone who is a long term investor, it provides some choices as far as investing without involving a broker. And it is definitely an option if you have no desire to use the internet to make stock purchases. Just be aware that your options are limited; most companies do not offer direct purchase of their stock or Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRIPs) to the public at large.

This book did it all, I learned more about stocks and purchases from this one book than any other. The information in this book takes you from the first step all the way to purchases. This book is the credit for my recent stock portfolio. And for that I Thank the author for a job very well done. I am an inexperienced investor who needed a mentor and teacher, this book/author filled that need. Outstanding, I read it cover to cover several times.

This book is an essential resource for anyone who wants to manage his own stock investments in America's best-known companies. All the difficult-to-get information like 800 numbers, addresses, stock symbols, minimum investment amounts, etc, etc is provided in an easy-to-read format along with model portfolios for the beginner and the more experienced investor. A "must read" for anyone who wants to partake in the growth of this country for lttle or no brokerage costs

This book seems horribly dated. I question the authors own credentials based on the environment we are seeing in today's Internet economy. Particularly in light of Dottie Downturn with IPOs losing steam and the medium is growing increasingly competitive and a feeding frenzy of larger corporations with ties beyond the Net has absolutely started. This book did not give me the information I had hoped. Yes, I get the concept of building a solid business plan, but this offered nothing more than any other generic business plan book for me. Where's the substance for our eComm-driven environment?

I highly recommend BUSINESSPLAN.COM. In fact, it isn't about settng up a dot-com company as some might think. For example; the book showed us how to cut costs and expand our company by using the Internet's technology for routine business activities such as supply chain management, customer service, marketing, and human resources-an enormous cost savings for us. Each chapter focused on the essential components we needed to employ for our business model; this book is the only one we found that could help us do this. Before you launch your business-go get this great book!

In the economic environment that we have at the moment, it feels like everyone around us is making huge amounts of money from simple internet ideas. This book gives clear guidance in how to profit from the revolutionary changes in the new media called the internet. The continual transformaton of the internet has made it had for alot of start up internet companies to prosper and most off all MAKE A PROFIT. All you will need is an idea, as Joanne Eglash is clearly set out the processes neccessary to write an effective business plan and a make it a successful business.

Wow, the revised 3rd edition of businessplan.com is a winner! Better yet, the publisher lets you print it out, which most eBook publishers won't allow. The "Wired to Win" chapter is an eye-opener. This chapter alone will save every business owner, or those just thinking about it, time and money. No wonder the subtitle is "how smart business owners plan to be rich." It is so clear to me now how to avoid becoming just another business failure statistic. I feel excited about owning and controlling my success.

If you intend to buy this book, think twice. Realize that the scattering of bad reviews for this book are there for a reason. I was very disappointed by this title and its message. This book skirts on being a real business plan how-to book, but never succeeds.

I found the book invaluable in providing a comprehensive framework to write my business plan for the expansion of my business onto the internet. While I have been in business for years, I had no experience with business plans, nor with the unique issues faced by internet businesses. The chapter layouts and worksheets are invaluable tools to organize a thorough business plan. As a non-technical person I found the index of internet and computer related terms useful. I do not understand how anyone could not find this book helpful. One look at the contents of the book will convince any serious internet entrepreneur that this book is an essential resource guide for internet businesses.
