This is solid book that has depth
This book covers so much in the derivatives marketplace. After being involved in the business for 12 years and writing three books on futures and commodity derivatives I was definitely refreshed and enlightened by Mr.DeRosa's book.

Excellent choice of papers!
DeRosa has picked excellent papers. If one reads the papers in detail, the currency derivatives literature, as well as related derivatives literature, becomes very easy to understand.

Comprehensive
This book presents highly technical papers on diverse topics from variuous academics. It would be very helpful to anyone looking to understand theoretical aspects of FX derivatives. Since most papers are written by different authors, notation is not consistent. In addition, academics do not always write like Hemingway. Nevertheless, the book covers everyhting from vanillas to exotics very well.

Just anwers for the Commodity Trading Manual
This workbook contents only the anwers for the questions inside the Manual. The questions are just text interpretation and don't represent nothing than a method of study. I don't think that it is useful for people that want to understand the markets and need case studies.

A good reference of futures market and commodities
The book tells the CBOT history and has tecnical information about the major commodities trader there ( agricultural, financial and energy ), including specifications, top producers and consumers. It helps to understand the market functioning and principal tools, like futures contracts and options, although dont't has useful technics about how to evaluate the prices or the market beaviour. It's a good reference book of futures market.

The place to start if you know nothing about commodities
This is an excellent book for someone just learning about commodities. It is a step by step process that leads the reader down the road to reality about speculating in commodities. There are no promises of rewards or failures but explains in detail the potential of what can be gained by astute studying.

An excellent primer, thorough & insightful; without jargon.
Having looked at many other books since reading Huff I can say this is the best beginners book. It lays out a simple story version of one person's introduction to futures. It provides resource and recipe. The book though dated by time is not lessened in the lesson. I recommend this book as an excellent doorway to understanding the mechincs, mindset and playing field that all beginning traders need to be successful. The book provides insight into the psyche and emotional type that will be successful.

Schwager is intense!
Mr.Schwager is intensely passionate about the markets. This comes through in his thorough analysis of the markets. He has no problem dissecting the fundamental and technical aspects of the market as easily as Michelangelo would paint the Sistine Chapel. His style is heavily influenced by statistics and high level mathematics. His entire voice is centered around the belief that the market can be predicted through analysis of the numbers. Unfortunately, for most people that is not the case. It also seems not to be the case for Mr.Schwager as well, since he admits in his book that he is not a good trader.

That being said, his book is a great reference tool that gets the average trader to stretch himself mentally and look at the markets in a different way. This book ... can be invaluable for the trader that is simply looking for a new perspective besides simply "flags", "candlesticks", and "elliot waves".

Futures Textbook
Schwager's textbooks while not specifically about spreads are comprehensive and complete about futures. This book has a small section about trading commodity futures spreads.

Classic, encyclopedic in scope.
Schwager is the starting point for any serious reading on futures and options trading. Disregard comments below on its being to quantitative. No, you don't need a Ph.D. in math nor high school calculus (there isn't a single integral or differential equation in the whole book). You should have a starting basis in statistics as well as some pre-existing intuition about markets.

It is well-written and clear, and truly encyclopedic in scope : every conceivable options trade, with all permutations thereof, is discussed and dissected, even inadvisable ones (they too are informative). A classic book whose age (mine is copyright 1984!) testifies to its enduring worth. To summarize, you can't really trade futures or options and expect to make money without it.
