This is a spellbinding adventure. I read this book in one night. You couldn't make up the stuff this young Brit did. The courage and guts she showed, while depending on the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength, make this an excellent story for young readers too.

Unlike other methods that recommend punishment and manipulation of circumstances, Swift's approach is full of common sense and integrity. This book has changed my relationship with my daughter and with my students. Highly recommended.

This easy to read book has enough information to prepare any parent for the teen years. If a parent is already overwhelmed by the teen years, this book can help save the day. The strength of it is that it is down to earth, is loaded with common sense, but best of all it really works... Parents should be ready to look in the mirror and be accountable for their actions both in role modeling and in messages given to children. This book will make it hard to ever say something and not follow through or to threaten a consequence that you don't give. Most beneficial points of the book are understanding how a teen thinks and having concrete examples of how to respond to teens. Most impressive is the respect this book gives you for your teenager, a most positive approach.

This book really helped me to understand what my junior high/middle school child is going through. It is so easy for us to forget what it was like when we were teenagers. Madelyn Swift helped me to remember that although it is said that these teen years are some of the best of our lives, they are also some of the most challenging. I had forgotten that "being cool" was so very important. Getting it Right with Teens reminded me to keep the communication lines open, my criticism to a minimum, and to be there for my daughter. It is so easy to focus on other things, younger siblings, work, ourselves. There is a belief system in our culture that once our children reach these teen years, they don't need us anymore, that they don't want us to be there for them anymore. Nothing could be further from the truth. As Ms. Swift explains, my daughter still needs me but differently. Ms. Swift also helped me to see that I still need my daughter. My relationship with my daughter continues to change and grow and thanks to Madelyn's book it is a more positive one.
